Electronic-grade ethanol is an ethanol product that is specifically used in the electronics field and has strict requirements for purity and impurity content. Electronic-grade ethanol plays an indispensable role in the manufacturing of electronic components and the cleaning of electronic equipment. Its quality directly affects the performance and reliability of electronic products.

The purity standard of electronic-grade ethanol is extremely high, usually requiring a purity of more than 99.9% or even higher. This is because in the electronics industry, even trace amounts of impurities can have a serious impact on electronic components. For example, metal ion impurities may cause problems such as short circuits and corrosion in electronic circuits; excessive moisture content may affect the electrical performance of electronic components, causing leakage, breakdown and other faults. Therefore, strict control of impurity content is a key indicator of electronic-grade ethanol. In addition to high purity, electronic-grade ethanol also has extremely strict requirements for particulate matter. The number of particles per cubic meter must be controlled at an extremely low level to avoid particles causing pollution during the manufacturing process of electronic equipment and affecting product quality.

The production process of electronic-grade ethanol is complex and sophisticated. The first is the selection of raw materials. Usually, high-purity industrial ethanol is used as the starting raw material, because industrial ethanol itself has been purified to a certain extent, the impurity content is relatively low, and it is easier to be deeply purified in the future. In the initial purification stage, distillation technology is used to take advantage of the difference in boiling points between ethanol and impurities, and most of the water and impurities with large boiling point differences are removed through multiple distillations. However, this conventional distillation method is difficult to remove impurities with boiling points similar to ethanol, so more advanced purification technologies are needed, such as molecular sieve adsorption. Molecular sieves have a uniform microporous structure and can selectively adsorb water molecules and other small molecular impurities, thereby further reducing the water and impurity content in ethanol. In addition, ion exchange resin technology is also used to remove metal ion impurities in ethanol. Ion exchange resins fix metal ions on resins by exchange reactions with metal ions, thereby effectively removing metal ions. After multiple purification processes, the electronic-grade ethanol obtained must also be strictly tested to ensure that all indicators meet the high standards of the electronics industry.

Electronic-grade ethanol has a series of unique characteristics. Its volatility is moderate, which allows it to evaporate quickly when used for cleaning electronic equipment, avoiding residual liquid from damaging electronic components. At the same time, it has good solubility for common pollutants such as grease, dust, and resin, and can effectively remove various impurities on the surface and inside of electronic equipment to ensure the cleanliness of electronic components. Electronic-grade ethanol has good chemical stability and is not easy to react chemically with electronic components under normal conditions of use, and will not have a negative impact on the performance of electronic equipment. Moreover, it has good insulation properties, and even if it is used inside electrical equipment, it will not affect the electrical performance of the equipment, ensuring the safe operation of electronic equipment.

In the field of application, electronic-grade ethanol has a wide range of uses. In the semiconductor manufacturing process, it is one of the main solvents for photoresist. Photoresist is a light-sensitive organic compound used to form fine circuit patterns on the surface of semiconductor wafers. As a solvent for photoresist, electronic-grade ethanol can ensure that the photoresist has good fluidity and uniformity, which is convenient for uniform coating on the wafer surface, thereby ensuring the accuracy and quality of the photolithography process. In the cleaning process of chip manufacturing, electronic-grade ethanol is used to remove photoresist residues, metal impurities and other contaminants on the chip surface, providing a clean surface for subsequent chip manufacturing processes. After the electronic equipment is assembled, electronic-grade ethanol is used to thoroughly clean the entire device to remove dust, oil and flux residues generated during the assembly process, thereby improving the reliability and stability of the electronic equipment. In addition, in the manufacturing process of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diode displays (OLEDs), electronic-grade ethanol is also used to clean glass substrates and other components to ensure the display effect of the display.

Compared with ordinary ethanol, the biggest difference between electronic-grade ethanol and ordinary ethanol is purity and impurity control. Ordinary ethanol, such as edible alcohol and industrial alcohol, has much lower purity and impurity content standards than electronic-grade ethanol. Edible alcohol is mainly used in the food and beverage industry. Although there are strict requirements for the safety of impurities, the control of impurities such as metal ions and particulate matter that affect electronic performance is not strict. Although industrial alcohol has a higher purity, it still contains a certain amount of harmful impurities, such as methanol, and the control of particulate matter cannot meet the requirements of the electronics industry.
